GoodTV 1.0.15 keeps video backgrounds playing smoothly

A built-in offline video collection, end-timed crossfades, and an opt-in Keep awake control join the public Android TV and Fire TV release.

AvailabilityPublic signed GitHub 1.0.15 APK for Android 7 or newer; universal and ARM-specific downloads. Not an app-store approval.

GoodTV Launcher 1.0.15 is the October 20, 2026 signed APK release for Android TV and Fire TV. It adds an offline video collection, shared wallpaper crossfades, and an opt-in way to keep GoodTV awake while its backgrounds play.

01

Backgrounds that play through

Choose the built-in Snoopy collection beside Apple TV Aerials in the launcher’s background settings. All 18 clips are packaged in the APK and play offline after first-use extraction. The local collection shuffles without repeating a clip until the set finishes, and avoids a repeat at the next cycle’s boundary.

Images, Reddit feeds, aerials, and local video collections share a 0.8-second crossfade. Playlist videos transition in their final 0.8 seconds, with the next clip preloaded paused to preserve its opening. The current background remains visible while the next one loads or if it fails.

02

An opt-in Keep awake setting

Open GoodTV Settings → System → Screensaver Settings and enable Keep awake while GoodTV is open. It applies to the launcher window, including its background-only idle screensaver. Opening another app releases that request; returning to GoodTV restores your saved choice.

This does not rewrite Fire TV’s system-wide sleep timeout and cannot override your television’s own power timer. Entering and leaving idle mode uses separate UI fade timing; the separate Android clock screensaver does not use the launcher’s media crossfade.

03

Download and testing

The universal signed APK is about 190 MB because it includes the video collection. First selection extracts about 147 MB into app-owned storage for offline playback. Existing signed GoodTV installations can install the update in place and retain their saved docks and settings.

The release passed 56 automated tests with one existing skipped test. Testing on a Fire TV covered clip playback and recorded transitions, remote-controlled keep-awake toggling, and releasing/restoring the keep-awake request around system settings. This does not establish identical behavior on every TV or app-store approval.
