Good Backup 0.1.4 adds a safer way to stop a Mac backup

The Apple Silicon beta adds a confirmed Cancel Backup action for running manual or scheduled jobs and keeps long health errors inside the Activity window. Windows and Linux remain at 0.1.0.

AvailabilityPublic GitHub 0.1.4 prerelease for Apple Silicon Mac; Windows and Linux remain on 0.1.0 beta.

Good Backup 0.1.4 is an Apple Silicon Mac beta released October 16, 2026. It adds a cancel control and makes long health errors readable. Windows and Linux remain on their earlier 0.1.0 beta packages.

01

Cancel a running backup

While a manual or scheduled backup is running, Activity and the menu bar show Cancel Backup. The app asks for confirmation, then requests a graceful stop from its own backup process. It waits for that process to finish rather than removing a repository lock underneath it.

Earlier saved snapshots remain available. Cancel does not delete the vault or start a restore. The current run may need a little time to stop and release its lock.

02

Health messages that fit

Activity now shows a short, wrapped health status and a Details button for the full error. A successful health check clears an old health warning. A repository lock must still be resolved safely; the new layout does not clear or ignore it.

03

Beta boundary

The Mac package was built and signature-checked locally, and the public beta ZIP is on the official MadeByGoodTools release. This does not establish a successful backup-and-restore cycle on every computer.

Windows and Linux remain at 0.1.0 and still need device testing. Keep another working backup until Good Backup has completed a backup and a restore on your own device.
