Asterion 0.1.2 remembers your menu-bar choices

The October 20 public beta preserves selected menu-bar apps and hidden/visible intent across app restarts, with retries for apps that appear later and a more consistent settings treatment.

AvailabilityPublic GitHub 0.1.2 prerelease for Apple Silicon, tested locally on macOS 27.2. Unsigned installer, locally signed app, not Apple-notarized; corresponding modified source is available.

Asterion 0.1.2 was built and publicly released October 20, 2026 in Saskatchewan. This October 21 follow-up covers menu-bar persistence, settings consistency, and the boundaries of the Apple Silicon beta. It is an incremental update to the existing Asterion utility suite.

01

Keep your menu-bar choices between app launches

The MiniBar feature inside Asterion now saves visibility intent separately from the native hiding mechanism. Closing the app releases that mechanism without clearing which icons you chose to hide. This refers to Asterion’s feature, not a new release of the standalone MiniBar app.

At startup and after late app launches or wake, bounded readiness retries restore the saved choice. Selected apps remain listed while they are not running. Asterion protects access to its own menu item and restores icons if it cannot keep its own item visible.

02

A consistent settings treatment

Settings use unified backgrounds and glass cards with violet-blue accents, smoother navigation, and accessibility fallbacks. The release includes the updated spaceship A/star branding and removes unused upstream logo artwork.

Existing settings remain in the app’s preferences. Mirrored Docks still approximate Apple’s Dock rather than duplicating every badge, stack, animation, or private styling behavior.

03

Release evidence and what remains untested

The public GitHub v0.1.2 prerelease includes the Good Tools installer, corresponding source archive, and checksums. The local installer SHA-256 matches the public release asset. Two app-restart checks preserved saved preferences, and isolated preference tests, signature checks, and the app self-check passed.

A full macOS logout or reboot was not tested. The beta is for Apple Silicon and was tested locally on macOS 27.2. The installer is unsigned; the app is signed with a local identity but is not Apple-notarized. Self-updates and upstream hosted services remain disabled.
