RARity 0.1.4 strengthens the archive engines

RARity now uses the official RARLAB UnRAR source build for RAR extraction, creates ZIP and 7z archives with its bundled engine, and can find an independently installed RAR creation engine on Windows.

AvailabilityVersion 0.1.4 is available for Apple-silicon Macs and 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Both installers are unsigned.

RARity 0.1.4 clarifies and strengthens the engines behind its most important archive jobs. Everyday ZIP and 7z creation remain built in, RAR extraction uses the official free UnRAR source, and optional RAR creation stays available only through RARLAB’s separately installed engine.

01

Official RAR extraction

RAR archives are extracted with a build made from RARLAB’s official UnRAR source. This gives RARity a clear, supported route for opening and extracting RAR files, including the encrypted and multi-volume archives supported by that engine.

UnRAR is used for extraction only. It does not silently grant or imitate the separate capability required to create compressed RAR archives.

02

ZIP and 7z creation are built in

RARity creates ZIP and 7z archives using the archive engine bundled with the app. Those common creation workflows do not require WinRAR, a trial, or another archive utility to be installed.

The goal is a straightforward default: choose the files, choose a widely useful format, and create the archive without needing to understand which backend performs the work.

03

Optional RAR creation, with the boundary intact

Compressed RAR creation becomes available only when an official rar command-line engine has been installed independently. RARity looks in the usual Windows WinRAR locations and now also checks the system PATH, fixing a case where a valid installation could be missed.

RARity never bundles the paid or trial RAR creation engine. If it is not installed, RAR extraction and ZIP or 7z creation continue to work normally.

04

Available now

The 0.1.4 Mac and Windows installers are now available from the RARity product page. The Windows package comes from the successful 0.1.4 build, and the Apple-silicon Mac package contains the corresponding updated app.

Both installers remain unsigned, so first-time installation may show an operating-system warning. The Good Tools installation guide explains the expected steps and when not to continue.
