GoodCast’s Fire TV receiver 0.1.2 was built and placed on the Good Tools download page October 9, 2026 in Saskatchewan. This October 11 note covers the receiver update path and its installation boundary. The Mac and Windows senders remain at beta 0.1.0; this is not a new sender release.
A visible update check on the TV
The receiver now shows Check for updates next to the connection controls. It reads a small HTTPS update feed hosted by Good Tools and compares the listed version code with the installed receiver before offering a newer package.
The live feed identifies version 0.1.2 and points to the versioned Fire TV APK. The published APK, local build, and feed SHA-256 digest match. That verifies the download being offered, not the reliability of every installation on every Fire TV model.
Checks before installation
After a person chooses Download and install, the receiver downloads the APK, verifies its SHA-256 checksum, then checks that its Android package name, newer version code, and signing identity match the installed app. Only then does it hand the APK to Android’s package installer for user confirmation.
A device-side test reached the update offer and the Fire TV installation prompt. It also encountered the Fire TV setting that blocks installs from a source until the person allows them. A completed over-the-air installation across all devices has not been established.
Moving from the original beta
The first GoodCast receiver was distributed as a debug-signed APK. Version 0.1.2 belongs to a signed release line, so Android cannot install it over that original build as an ordinary same-app update. People on the original debug build should remove it and install the current receiver from the Good Tools product page once; that can clear app-local saved connection details.
After installing a receiver from the signed release line, future updates are designed to use the in-app check when signing and version checks pass. The Mac and Windows senders continue at 0.1.0 and do not need to be described as updated by this receiver release.
