GoodCast opens its first screen-to-TV beta

GoodCast pairs a Mac or Windows sender with a Fire TV receiver for local-network screen sharing. The first installers and receiver were built October 4–5; the Windows installer is also on a public GitHub beta release.

GoodCast’s first public beta combines a computer sender with a Fire TV receiver so a screen or application can be shared over a local network. The receiver and Mac package were built late October 4 and the finished Mac and Windows installers early October 5, 2026 in Saskatchewan. The Windows prerelease was published on GitHub October 5; this site note is posted October 7.

01

How the pieces fit together

Install the GoodCast receiver on a Fire TV, then run the sender on an Apple Silicon Mac or 64-bit Windows computer on the same local network. The TV interface presents discovered GoodCast computers in a remote-friendly picker and includes saved-address and manual connection fallbacks.

The sender can share a full display or an application. Low Latency Sharing uses a direct local connection rather than an account or cloud relay. The actual audio options depend on the source operating system and what is selected in its sharing controls.

Packages and where they are hosted

The Good Tools product page serves the Mac installer and Fire TV receiver APK. The Windows x64 installer is linked to the official GoodCast-Updates GitHub prerelease; the locally built installer matches the public release asset’s SHA-256 digest.

The first Windows installer is an unsigned beta. The Fire TV receiver is a debug-signed APK. These distribution states are different from a store listing or a broadly validated consumer release.

03

Early-beta boundaries

Both devices need to be on the same local network. Protected video may appear black, and a router or network change may make a saved manual address stale. Audio availability varies by platform and source.

These packages and the public download paths have been verified, but that is not the same as confirming every combination of computer, Fire TV device, display, and audio source works reliably. Keep the original viewing option available while trying the beta.
