Good Backup for Google Drive is a separate edition that copies selected Google Drive content to a chosen Nextcloud. Mac and Windows 0.1.0 packages were built locally on October 27, 2026. This October 29 development note records that milestone and the live Mac tester-onboarding page; it does not announce public installer downloads or Google approval.
Daily copying with retained history
The first run copies the selected folders. Later runs compare available size, modification time, and checksum information before transferring new or changed files. Changed files are transferred in full. Current holds the latest copies, and History retains files replaced during later runs.
The source uses rclone copy rather than sync: deleting a file in Google Drive does not delete the saved copy in Nextcloud. This beta does not automatically purge retained deleted files or history. Backups are readable files on your chosen server, transferred through the computer over HTTPS, rather than the encrypted restic snapshots used by the original Good Backup.
Shared folders and duplicate names
Selections can include My Drive, Shared with me, and accessible Shared Drives. Google folder IDs keep duplicate folders distinct. Duplicate names receive stable Google-ID suffixes in the destination, while ambiguous or colliding destinations stop the run rather than silently overwriting data.
Google-native documents export to supported Office formats where available. Google permissions and download restrictions still apply. Some duplicate-file operations and exports need temporary local storage, even though the application does not require a permanent local copy of the whole Drive.
Setup and scheduling
The Mac beta uses a dedicated Google Desktop OAuth client imported through Sign-in Options, read-only Drive authorization, and Nextcloud’s browser sign-in. This is why the product page still offers tester onboarding. It is not a claim that unrestricted Google sign-in has been approved.
A daily schedule runs while the computer is powered on, signed in, and connected to both services. Overdue work can catch up after wake or login. Settings and credentials are separate from the original Good Backup application.
What is built and what is available
The local Mac ZIP reports version 0.1.0, and the Windows ZIP contains a packaged Electron application reporting 0.1.0. The Windows source includes user-scoped daily Task Scheduler setup, encrypted credential storage, cancellation, and an operation lock to prevent overlapping jobs.
This check passed thirteen Windows-source tests; one real-rclone integration test was skipped on the current host. These checks do not establish Windows installation, a successful authenticated Google-to-Nextcloud backup, or a restore on a real Windows PC. The Good Tools page currently provides onboarding rather than public Mac or Windows download buttons. Keep another working backup while validating the beta.
